International Movie Night

In celebration of Culture Fest, Global Jackets and Nepali Club at Georgia Tech will be viewing “Himalaya” which was nominated for Best Foreign Film at the 72nd Academy Awards in 2000.

Synopsis: “Himalaya (French: Himalaya: L’Enfance d’un chef’) is a 1999 Nepalese movie directed by Eric Valli

Himalaya is a story set against the backdrop of the Nepalese Himalayas. At an altitude of five thousand metres in the remote mountain region of Dolpa, Himalaya is the story of villagers who take a caravan of yaks across the mountains, carrying rock salt from the high plateau down to the lowlands to trade for grain. An annual event, the caravan provides the grain that the villagers depend on to survive the winter. The film unfolds as a story of rivalry based on misunderstanding and distrust, between the aging chief and the young daring herdsman, who is both a friend and a rival to the chief’s family, as they struggle for leadership of the caravan.”

The meeting was moderated by the former president of NASeA Dr. Sanjeeb Sapkota.

With the recommendations from the INLS international officials and other attendants, INLS-GA Founder President Chet Nath Ghimire accepted to serve as the President of the INLS-GA for the term of 2015-2017. Mr. Ghimire then requested following individuals to serve on the executive Committee: Ambika Lohani as the Vice President, Kiran Dhakal as the Secretary General and Gobinda Shrestha and Geeta Devi Sapkota as the members. President Ghimire also nominated Sanjeeb Sapkota to serve as an advisor to the committee.

Speaking at the meeting INLS Chapters/Life member Expansion committee, Chair Bimal Nepal said that the reestablishment of INLS-GA will encourage and inspire other Nepali community in different states to come together to establish their chapter and keep the INLS mission alive. He further requested everyone to be INLS Life members. During this moment GA Social leader and INLS-GA member Gobinda Shrestha proudly announced his INLS Life Membership.

The president of INLS-international, Padam Biswokarma, assured the newly formed committee led by Chet Nath Ghimire all the support and help to grow and flourish the INLS-GA Chapter.
