Greetings!

As you may be aware of that the very successful two years tenure of the current NASeA ‘Executive Committee’, will be coming to end this September 2017. Three-member Election Committee lead by Saubhgya L. Shrestha together with Raja Ghale and Kiran (Ron) Sitoula has already been formed to conduct NASeA Executive Committee Election 2017-2019.

It is our immense pleasure to give continuity to the democratic processes and to conduct a free and fair election to form NASeA Executive Committee 2017-2019.

Following the guidelines of NASeA Bylaws/Article IX/ Elections 7.

“All persons nominated shall contest the election through the secret ballot. Only the dues paying members in good standing who have become members for at least sixty (60) days immediately preceding the election shall be eligible to vote.” NASeA Executive Committee has unanimously approved the following criteria adopted by NASeA Election 2017 Membership and Verification team lead by President Bimal Nepal.

Here are the guidelines of NASeA Membership 2017 and eligibility to vote and contest the election to be held on Sunday, September 3, 2017 during the 13th NASeA/ANMA Joint Convention 2017 which is to be held during Labor Day weekend i.e. September 01-03, 2017 in at the great city of Charlotte, North Carolina.

a. All current NASeA Life Members including all who become Life Member by July 4^th ,2017 11:59 PM EST are eligible to vote or contest the election. Be a Life Member and get special NASeA Silver Jubilee Discount. Life Member with Spouse $250 with $50 discount and Single Life Membership $175 with $25 Discount and be a proud Life Member of NASeA. b. One may pay NASeA Annual membership fee of $15 by July 4^th,2017 11:59 PM EST and be an eligible member to vote or contest the election. Please click this link and be the General Members of NASeA. https://naseaonline.org/?page_id=2158

c. The Full Package Registration in all categories paid to participate in the joint convention 2017 by July 4^th, 2017 11:59 PM EST automatically makes one a NASeA paid up member and be an eligible member to vote or contest the election. Only registration received for one of the following package qualify:

1) Full Package for life member ($80+)
2) Adult Registration ($85+)
3) Student Registration ($65+)
4) Athletes Registration ($65+)

d. All Full package registered participants in Joint Convention 2016 in St. Louis, MO are eligible to vote or contest the election. This official record will be obtained NASeA from ANMA within this month of June.

e. NASeA encourage all its General Members to register themselves as well as immediate family members residing in the same household only.

f. Any individuals registering for NASeA Yearly membership who create a Voters Bank i.e. several members registering from one source/credit card or Check will be deemed invalid. Election Committee/Members of Verification Committee reserves the rights to dispute and disqualify such members eligibility to vote. For details please read below the eligibility regarding Who Can Vote……

g. Membership sent by check via postal mail service, postmarked on or before July 4^th, 11.59 PM 2017 will be valid. Same thing is applicable for direct deposit too. No verbal communication is accepted on payment regarding NASeA Membership.

h. Registration must be done by July 4^th 2017 11:59 PM Eastern Time, following one of the above mention categories.

i. Any registration received after the specified time, will NOT grant you voting privileges regardless of registration category or NASeA membership type. System date (Date/time recorded by PayPal, Database system time will be used as official proof).

k. All the eligible Members/Voters from all mentioned above categories will be tabled in NASeA Website for General members to view.

l. Final NASeA Membership list will be officially sent to Election Commissioners by Sunday July 9, 2017 before midnight EST for the election purposes.

With due respect let us encourage all to pre-register for the Joint NASeA/ANMA Joint convention by July 4^th, 2017 11:59 EST MIDNIGHT. This will indeed provide the following extra incentives for our valued participants and members.

1. NASeA Yearly Membership begins immediately and makes pre-registrants eligible to contest and vote in the coming election.

2. Each registered individual will benefit in cash $25 i.e. The pre-registration fee paid will cover your NASeA $15 dollars yearly Membership due and you will save $10 for Early bird registration.

Who can register?

Anyone with goodwill towards mission of NASeA and coming to participate in the joint convention and meet the eligibility criteria of becoming a member. During the actual voting, one must provide a proof of Government Issued ID, Passport, School/University Picture ID that has your name and address which must match with registered address will be allowed to vote.

Example 1:

I have wife and eligible kids who live in the same household to become NASeA Member to vote, can I register all of them using my credit card?

–> Yes you can.

Example 2:

I know lots of friends but they don’t have credit card and have asked me for help to register to vote can I help them?

–> No you cannot.

Unless they are your immediate family member and live in the same household, you may not register them. They have to register on themselves.

Why we are doing this?

The idea is to discourage “bulk” voter registration where whole group of people are registered using one credit card effectively practicing unhealthy habit of “vote buying” that are rampant in some other Nepali organizations. This process will ensure that genuine members of NASeA can vote which will create a transparent, healthy, competitive election environment.

CALL FOR PROGRAM PROPOSAL

The Greater Charlotte Nepalese Association is hosting 13th Joint Convention of Association of Nepalese Association in Southeast America (NASeA) and Nepalese in Midwest America (ANMA) in Charlotte, NC during Labor Day weekend. The Joint Convention Program Committee hereby calls for the proposal(s) of program(s) to be presented in the upcoming joint convention 2017.

The convention has been an excellent venue for public forums and interactions on wide range of topics that serve the best interests of our community. We encourage prospects to enlist programs related to our convention theme “Civic Engagement and Youth Empowerment of Nepalis in America” and those benefiting the Nepalese communities in the USA as well as in Nepal. We also expect program proposal(s) to connect with the mission of NASeA/ANMA/GCNA and with the knowledge, perspective, and interests of all three organizations as well as those of the convention participants. In order to develop an effective program, we invite all community members to submit their program proposal(s) by Saturday, July 15, 2017

Time available for each program will be one hour on an average; however slight variance can be accommodated depending on the nature and relevancy of the proposed program. The program committee will review the program proposal(s) and make its final decision in consultation with the Convention Core Committee. Decision will be notified to the concerning individual or team as early as possible.

On behalf of Nepalese Association in Southeast America (NASeA) and Association of Nepalese in Mid-west America (ANMA) together with the host organization Greater Charlotte Nepalese Association (GCNA) and the entire Joint Convention Organization Committee, we invite you all to this historical 13^th NASeA/ANMA Joint Convention 2017 which is to be held during Labor Day weekend i.e. September 01-03, 2017 in great city of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Respected Nepali community leaders and individuals of NASeA/ANMA region and beyond,

Happy Nepali New Year 2074 Greetings from joint convention!

We are writing this with great enthusiasm to inform you all that 13th Annual NASeA/ANMA joint Convention 2017 is going to be held in Charlotte, North Carolina from September 01-03, 2017.

This historical event will be is hosted by the Greater Charlotte Nepalese Association (GCNA).For the planning and preparation of the convention, the nine members of Core Committee have been formed to lead the joint convention. Similarly, several Program Coordinators have been nominated who will lead each committee and will be responsible for assigned tasks.

On behalf of joint convention committee please find below announcement for the THEME Competition.

With this note, we encourage you all interested individuals to be the part of this competition.Your creative thought can be “THEME” for this historical convention.

Nine member Core Committee composed of members from Nepalese Association in Southeast America (NASeA), Association of Nepalese in Midwest America (ANMA), and GreaterCharlotte Nepalese Association (GCNA) will select the best Theme which will be used for the convention web sites, banners, flyers and all other official communications. The people whose Theme is selected will be recognized during the Joint Convention.

Criteria for the Logo/Theme Competition:

1. One person can send multiple entries.

The Nepalese Association in Southeast America (NASeA) and the Association of Nepalese in Midwest America (ANMA) are announcing the annual student writing contest. The contest is open to all high school, middle school, and elementary school students living in North America.

The goal of this contest is to increase awareness of Nepali culture in order to preserve our culture and ultimately gain a better understanding of ourselves.

Essay: Rebuilding the Lost Heritage
If you were a policy-maker how would you plan on rebuilding historic monuments destroyed and damaged by recent massive earthquake in Nepal?
What will be your short-term priority and your long-term agenda? Since thousands of historical monuments have been affected by the earthquake, how would you prioritize where to begin the recovery process? What kind of infrastructure would you reinstate?

(Guideline: The essay should incorporate a plan for rebuilding both completely destroyed and extensively damaged monuments in Nepal. The essay should also discuss how Nepal can hand down its cultural heritage to future generations).

Awards & Recognition:
The first-place winner will be awarded a prize of US $300 along with an award certificate. The second and third place winners will receive $100 and $50 respectively, along with an award certificate. The top three essays will also be published in NASeA’s upcoming Yeti View Point magazine. The winners will be honored during NASeA/ANMA joint convention during Labor Day Weekend 2015 in Greensboro/High Point, North Carolina.

Middle School Contest
Memoir: Devastated by the Earthquake

Discuss your memories regarding any place in Nepal that has been damaged by the recent earthquake. If you have not personally visited the location of choice, you may write from the perspective of someone who has, such as your parents.

Also discuss the state of the location after the earthquake. For example, the earthquake has given Nepal a chance to rebuild for the better. Therefore, what (if any) did you not like about the location prior to the earthquake and how can this concern be addressed during the reconstruction?

(Guideline: The essay should discuss a physical location – any city, village or an area such as Durbar Square).

Awards & Recognition:
First, second, and third place winners will be awarded a prize of US $100, $75 and $50 respectively along with an award certificate. The top three narrative writings will also be published in NASeA’s upcoming Yeti View Point magazine. The winners will be honored during NASeA/ANMA joint convention in Labor Day Weekend 2015 in Greensboro/High Point, NC.

The award for the middle school writing contest is sponsored by Dr. Sanjeeb Sapkota and Ms. Sabina Sapkota of Lawrenceville, Georgia.

Show and Tell: Lost Heritage of Nepal

Assume that you have to do a “Show-and-tell”, except instead of telling, you will be writing. Choose one famous Nepali temple, building, or place that has been destroyed or damaged by the recent earthquake in Nepal. Ask your parents to provide a picture of the object and write about it. Please do not forget to send us your picture along with your writing.

(Guideline: 1. Write about any historically significant temple, building, or place that has been damaged/destroyed by the recent earthquake in Nepal. 2. Attach a picture of your show and tell).

Awards & Recognition:
Elementary school “Show and Tell Nepal” contests’ first, second, and third place winners will be awarded a prize of US $100, $75 and $50 respectively along with an award certificate. The 9th NASeA/ANMA Joint Convention Committee invites entries for theme and logo competition for the NASeA ANMA Convention being held in Greenville/Spartanburg during the labor day weekend of 2013, August 30 (Friday), 31 (Saturday), and September 1 (Sunday). A joint panel composed of members from NASeA and ANMA will select the best logo and theme which will be used for the convention, in web sites, promotion, marketing, and all communications.

For the Logo Competition:
1. One person can send multiple entries.
2. The logo has to be original and should represent the mission of both the organizations, NASeA and ANMA. Please visit the web pages of each of the organizations at naseaonline.org and www.anmausa.org.
3. Person entering the logo competition can also enter the ‘theme’ competition.

NASeA Outstanding Social Leaders of 2012

Amid a ceremony at the ANMA-NASeA Convention, the Community Services Committee of NASeA recognized the following eight individuals as Emerging Social Leaders and one Outstanding Social Leader of 2012 for their outstanding contributions to the Nepali Communities/Diaspora in the USA and back home in Nepal.

Dr. Lila Bahadur Karki, the Chairperson of the Community Services Committee and the Executive Member of NASeA, briefly highlighted their commendable accomplishments and Sanjeeb Sapkota, President of NASeA, handed out plaques to the recognized social leaders. On behalf of NASeA, we congratulate our outstanding social leaders and expect even more services to the community in the following years as well.

NASeA Emerging Social Leaders of 2012:
1. Shailendra Devkota, President, NCNC

In a short involvement with NCNC, he has demonstrated his dynamic leadership to heighten Nepali identity in the NASeA region and beyond. He has provided Nepali communities, specifically NCNC members, with a feeling of being at home in Nepal by implementing so many wonderful activities:NCNC Members’ Contact Office, Nepali School, Radio Mirmire, Sangalo Newsletter, Monthly Movie Show, Blood Donation Drive (the highest number of donors in NASeA region so far), Satsang, and many other commendable activities that have truly adhered the majority of the Nepali under the single umbrella of NCNC.

2. Sangita Dongol, Chair, Children and Youth Committee/Coordinator, Atlanta Nepali School, Georgia

She is a champion blood donor and a regular volunteer and has been working hard to promote and teach Nepali language, culture, and moral education through the Atlanta Nepali School, leading NASeA’s very first children and youth committee to reach out to so many young talents to prosper through children to children webinars, and is also a Satsang organizer who focuses on women’s groups, and also a proven fund raising activist for NASeA.

3. Choonamani Khanal, General Secretary, FANS, INLS, Editor in chief of Voice and Sagar Newsletters, Former Information Secretary of FNA, Chairperson, NASeA Publication Committee, Founding Coordinator of Miami Pathsala, Florida

First of all, we wish him a quick and healthy recovery. He is a person with multiple talents, a true social HERO, and a highly dedicated individual who extends generous hands, and a big heart and mind to the needy people in the Nepali community and beyond. He always regards social service a top priority despite his serious health issue of having to carry a big cylinder of oxygen 24/7. No matter which Nepali organization (FANS, INLS, NASeA, FNA, …), his presence is always there. He is also the founder of Kritagya Trust that serves and empowers rural communities in Nepal.

4. Dr. Divya Pradhan, President of NANA, Alabama

She has shown exemplary leadership as the President of the North Alabama Nepali Association (NANA) for the past several years. She has been actively involved in organizing activities of Nepali origin, maintaining a true cohesiveness amongst Nepali people, preserving and promoting Nepali culture and values and passing them to the children and the community, representing Nepal in the local community and international institutions and also organizing social programs like blood donation drives.

5. Krishna Shrestha, President of INLS Florida Chapter

As the President of the International Nepali Literary Society (INLS), Florida Chapter, he had provided the targeted group with remarkable contributions and a patriotic dedication by promoting Nepali culture, literature, and language in Florida and beyond. INLS has established five Nepali Schools (Pathsala) respectively in West Palm Beach, Miami, Orlando, Tampa, and Jackson until today. They have been role models in heightening the Nepali identity through Pathsala, not only in the NASeA region but also in the USA.

6. Dr. Hem Raj Joshi, Ohio

His constant support and commitment to empower especially rural girls of Far West Nepal through education has highly been commended in the Nepali Diaspora. He has been providing many scholarships focused on minorities and underprivileged girls and monetary support to establish and promote schools facilities (text books, furniture, and libraries). Simultaneously, he has been leading annual fund raising campaigns to provide patients in need of cataract surgery and free eye camp services in the Far West; these are truly commendable accomplishments.

7. Dr. Binay Shah, Washington

Since an early age, he has been providing many young Nepali medical doctors and students with training opportunities through telemedicine, and has also been providing grants to conduct research on emerging issues in the health sector, has collaborated with B. P. Koirala Memorial Hospital to establish the first bone marrow transplant center in Bharatpur, has invited Nepali health professionals to the USA for training, and has organized conferences to update knowledge and skills of the young doctors regarding cancer treatments.

8. Ramakant Kharel, Illinois

He is a social HERO who follows simple living and high thinking thoughts. He is a man with a gigantic heart, truly generous hands, and mind to serve the Nepal community regardless of where, what, or when. His readiness to support the Nepali community with his optimum capacity is praiseworthy. He has always been there to extend generous hands to promote social services and physical, moral, and financial support. His contributions to Nepal Wireless Project, Empower Nepal Foundation, victimized individuals, people in need, and many other organizations has encouraged others to participate in such noble causes.

He is one of the few Nepali people in the USA who barley needs an introduction; the first Nepali to receive Ph.D. in engineering, a past president of ANMA, Lead Founder of the Nepalese American Council (NAC), Founder and CEO of Prahlad & Bindu Pant Orphans Foundation, Chairperson of Nepali Community Center in Atlanta (working committee), and advisor of NASeA. His years of experience, service, and dedication to the Nepali community through multiple projects are highly appreciated in Nepali Diaspora.

10. Bruce Keenan and Susan Keenan, Founder and CEO of Himalayan Children’s Charities, Georgia

They established Himalayan Children’s Charities in 2000 to extend their charitable minds, hearts, and services. They have been fully supporting 51 children in Kathmandu and 20 children in rural areas by providing food, housing, education, health care, and all other needs. They are shaping the future of 71 poorest of the poor orphaned and abandoned little Nepali brothers and sisters and are working relentlessly to serve more children.

NASeA, the Critical Stakeholder of the Successful Convention?

Dear All,

NASeA and its partner ANMA recently concluded another landmark convention of the people of Nepali origin in Indianapolis last weekend (Aug 31-Sep 02) with several sessions, programs, events and accomplishments and vowed to work together for the better for Nepali Community moving ahead www.jointconvention.org. NASeA certainly was a big and critical stakeholder of the 8th ANMA NASeA convention.

I am proud to list contributions that NASeA executives, advisors, former presidents and general members made at the convention that added significantly to complete the circle of success of the convention:
•Over 100 people drove or flew from the Southeast region to the convention, registered and participated in several sessions, sports, activities and interactions to make one of the most successful gathering of people of Nepali origin in the United States.
•Executive member Mohan Bista coordinated the walk and run in the morning for both the days of Saturday Sep 01 and Sunday Sep 02 that many people participated. He and Dr. Lila Bdr Karki arranged the water given out to the participants of the event.
•Vice President Dhana Timilsina was one of the key persons who made ‘100+ participants from the southeast region at the convention’ happen (the other person is Dr. Baral mentioned below). Mr. Timilsina also represetend NASeA at several NRN related activities; he was recognized with NRN partner-certificate and was asked to chair the NRN committee to raise funds that would support Nepali during her or his urgency/emergency. He coordinated the decorative backdrops for the cultural program and its shipment from Nepal.
•NASeA Chair of Community Services Committee Dr. Lila Bdr. Karki was busy, as always, with multiple activities. He coordinated, for the first time in the history of convention, a successful blood drive where many people donated. He organized one of the most successful session ‘Giving Back to Motherland’ where eight different projects gave updates on their endevour to empower people in Nepal including children and women. His committee recognized 10 different emerging social leaders and outstanding community leader who have made significant contributions in their fullest capacity. He will shortly send out the list of those who have received the award.
•Dr. Ram Baral successfully convinced participants from several southeastern states includng South Carolina and North Carolina to participate at the convention. He made substansitve inputs in the general assembly and other sessions in the interest of NASeA.
•NASeA executive Dr. Tilak Shrestha ran the important session on ‘Spirituality’ that were attended by many.
•Executve Member Madhav Mainali donated blood at the convention and provided critical comments and inputs at many sessions, general assembly for NASeA interest.
•Executive member Priti Khatri provided critical support and consultations to the program committee that facilitated the transportation and accomodation of high profile guest.
•NASeA Advisor Dr. Prahlad Pant chaired the General Assebmly, moderated the session of the Nepali Engineers, presented the updates on Prahlad and Bindu Pant Foundation during the session on ‘Giving Back to Motherland’ and provided me with crucial consultations at the convention.
•Other southeasterns who spoke at the ‘Giving Back to Motherland’ session were Bijay Kattel on Abi Kattel Foundation, Binod Parajuli on Ganga Ghar, Bruce and Susan Kennan on Himalayan Children Charities.
•Former president and Advisor Raja Ghale was the key for the success of the concert where he provided not only critical consulations on the artists but also facilitated in their travel and accomodation. Mr. Ghale moderated the session on ‘Nepal Wireless Project’ during which esteemed social worker Mahabir Pun spoke live from Nepal. He also provided valuable inputs at several sessions.
•NASeA advisor Dr. Sushama Pradhan moderated the award ceremony for the winner of the essay competition; NASeA Advisor Dr. Shiva Gautam made remarkable presentation that everyone appreciated; NASeA advisor Gobinda Giri Prerana moderated session on the exploration of federalism of Nepali organizations.
•NASeA treasurer Gobinda Shrestha and executive Vice President Ram Dongol made significant effort in raising funds at the convention for NASeA by going to each individuals and making the case why NASeA needs their generous support. Gobinda Shrestha also made outstanding presentation at the General Assembly on the balance sheet of NASeA of last year.
•The executives and advisors came in the front at the opening ceremony facing the audiences when I invited them during my address to the convention. This allowed everyone to see and know who the ‘working bees’ of NASeA are and what they have contributed in the past year. I also recognized the executives when I spoke at the Women forum and NRN forum.
•Presidents’ presentations: Presidents or representatives of Nepali Organizations in the states, cities or universities of Southeast America made presentation of the activities of their organization during NASeA general assembly and they include Manoj Pradhan representing Nepal Center of North Carolina (NCNC), Krishna Shrestha representing Florida Chapter of International Nepali Literary Society (INLS), Krishna Pokhrel from Nepalese Community Center of Orlando (NCCO), Madhav Mainali from Nepali Association of North Alabama (NANA).
•Nepali Center in North Carolina’s volleyball team stood second, but considering the distance they travel to take part in the game, they won many other things than the trophy itself.
•2013 Convenion and SCAN: Representative from South Carolina Association of Nepalese (SCAN), who was selected by NASeA executive committee last month to be the host of 2013 NASeA ANMA Convention made a powerful presentation at the cultural program promoting Greenville, South Carolina where the convention will be held and inviting everyone next year.
•NASeA Booth: NaSeA booth proudly displayed different publications, products and projects related to NASeA. On the wall and at booth table there was the banner of NASeA Five different publications were displayed namely ‘How to organize 5K/2K Walk and Run’, ‘How to Organize Blood Drive’, ‘Guide to Organizing Dheusi/ Bhailo’and Guideline for the safety and security of nepali Employees working at Convenience Store/ Gas Station’. Brochure on Nepal wireless project was displayed as well and some fund raising activities did take place. Adjacent to NASeA booth was the booth by Nepalese Cultural Center of Orlando (NCCO) where NCCO president Krishna Pokhrel, Bikash Devkota and Sri Om raised funds for the Cultural Center in Orlando by selling raffle, the first prize of which is Toyota car.
•Former president Dr. Prakash Malla and Tek Thapa though had to cancel their travel at the last minute due to unavoidable reasons helped in preparing the sessions that they were supposed the moderated and assigned their alternatives. Likewise joint secretary Bimal Nepal, Advisor Tara Pun and General Secretary Sagun who could not attend helped plan their part.
•Chairperson, ANMA President, NAI, and Co-chair of the Convention: The Chairperson of the convention Gopendra Bhattrai, the outgoing ANMA President Rajendra Khatiwada, hundreds of members of Nepalese Association of Indiana (NAI), the host organization of this convention, the co-chairpersons Dr. Ram Baral, Ram Dongol, Dhana Timilsina, Rajiv Shrestha, Sharala Pandey and Ganesh Pokhrel deserve special thanks for their time, efforts and contributions for the success of the convention.
