CALL FOR STUDENT WRITING CONTEST

The Association of Nepalese in Midwest America (ANMA), Nepalese Association in Southeast America (NASeA) and Association of Nepalis in the Americas (ANA) are announcing the annual student writing contest. The contest is open to all high school (First prize – $300, Second prize – $100 and Third prize – $50: sponsored by Mr. Kanwar Awan), middle school (First prize – $100, Second prize – $75 and Third prize – $50: sponsored by Dr. Sanjeeb Sapkota and Ms. Sabina Sapkota), and elementary school (First prize – $100, Second prize – $75 and Third prize – $50: sponsored by Mr. Madhav Mainali and Ms. Sita Ghimire Mainali) students living in North America.

The goal of this contest is to increase awareness about Nepal in order to preserve our culture and heritage, make our children proud of their root, and ultimately gain a better understanding of ourselves.

Nepali National Convention 2018 (ANMA, NASeA, ANA) 
Greetings from the Nepali National Convention 2018 Chicago, IL.

It is our immense pleasure and honor to invite you, friends and family to the Nepali National Convention 2018. Please extend our formal invitation to everyone within your reach.

The convention is being hosted by Association of Nepalese in Mid-West America (ANMA), Nepalese Association in Southeast America (NASeA) and Association of Nepalese in the Americas (ANA) and other local Nepalese organizations on Labor Day weekend (Aug 31 -Sept 2) 2018 at Hilton Rosemont/Chicago O’Hare, IL, USA.

The National Convention with the theme being “Unity for Nepalese Community” is trying to bring and unite together hundreds of key members of the Nepali Americans from across the States as well as from Canada. We are planning to discuss the wide range of issues but not limited to

Winner of 2017 Dr. Prahlad & Bindu Pant Scholarship Award

Congratulations! Alok Acharya for being the recipient of  $2000.00 of 2017 Prahlad & Bindu Pant Scholarship Award.

 

On behalf of Nepalese Association in Southeast America (NASeA) together with NASeA Academic and Professional Committee, Chair Dr. Manoj K. Jha and the Executive members, it is my great pleasure to share with you all that Alok Acharya from Irving, Texas as the winner of $2000.00 “2017 Prahlad & Bindu Pant Scholarship Award”. 

 

As per official announcement received from the Chair of Academic and Professional Committee, NASeA, Dr. Manoj K. Jha, Mr. Acharyae  has  been declared the winner for this year’s Prahlad and Bindu Pant $2000.00 Scholarship award. He has received his high school graduation from MacArthur High School (Irving, TX) in 2017 and currently enrolled in the University of Texas at Arlington for his undergraduate study.

 

Mr. Acharya, please  be advised to attend the 13th NASeA/ANMA Joint Convention 2017  to be held during Sept. 1-3, 2017 in Charlotte, North Carolina to receive this cash award. Call for paper from Women’s Committee

 

Dear Community members , 

I am delighted to share that NASeA/ ANMA Is organizing Women’s Forum in forthcoming Bigger Better Best Ever 13th  NASeA /ANMA joint Convention 2017 (https://jointconvention.org). This is a friendly reminder for August 20th 2017 deadline to submit papers for the women’s forum. This is the place to be this summer where we will have largest Nepali gathering outside of Nepal to meet, have fun and basically to discuss our common goals. Theme for this year is “Civic Engagement and Youth Empowerment of Nepalis in America “. As we all know we cannot engagement and preserve our culture and identity if there is no equality. Our today’s Youths are future leaders ! Their each and every engagement impact not only where we reside, all over the world! It is our common responsibility to make Nepali community in USA to be violence free. Violence in any form is not acceptable! Therefore,  Women Forum choose the topics of “Women’s Empowerment and Domestic Violence” 

NASeA/ANMA Women’s Forum 

Theme: Women’s Empowerment and Domestic Violence 

Women forum is looking papers on the basic of below listed criteria. We will select three panelists among the best paper presented. There will be one topic and three panelists to speak on different aspects of the same topic. Also, please send your brief bio for the organizer to understand your subject matter expertise in that area. 

Women forum will focus on issues and solutions on the following topics: 

1.The basics of domestic violence (definitions, statistics, effects on children, why people are abusive) and how Nepali community members in USA can respond to domestic violence. 

2.Presents data on its incident, compare the data to South Asian population and then data on Nepalis in the USA. 

3.Impact on victim, children, family and social fabric, economic cots, suicide, depression, guilt workdays lost emergency room visits with data. 

4.Resources available, government, laws, non-profit organizations, especially those dedicated to South Asians, any such models in benefiting Nepali community in USA. 

5.Nepali women’s dilemma: performing a multitasking role, daunting challenges for domestic violence. 

Panelist Qualification: 

1.Presentation or Research paper should be focused on one of the above-mentioned topics. 

2.Panelist must be highly knowledgeable and MUST possess work/study experience in this area. 

3.Panelist MUST focus on outcome -strategic/recommendation as to what can be done at individual, household, community and policy level. 

Only selected panelist will be invited to speak. Submission dead line: August 20th , 2017 Paper submitted after the deadline would not be accepted.

Call for submission of content for “Yeti Viewpoints 2017”

GCNA is proudly hosting the 13th Joint Convention of the Nepalese Association in Southeast America (NASeA) and Association of Nepalese in Midwest America (ANMA) in Charlotte, North Carolina during Labor Day weekend, September 1-3, 2017. The Joint Convention Publication Committee hereby calls for articles, poems, stories or other literary pieces to be published in the official commemorative magazine “Yeti Viewpoints”.

 

Submission Rules and Guidelines

·         By submitting content, authors agree to release all publication rights to NASeA and ANMA.

·         All submissions must be emailed by August 7, 2017 as Microsoft Word or Rich Text Format document, to ckhanal@gmail.com(chair) or any member of the publication committee. Submissions must be limited to three-pages of 12-point, single-spaced text.

·         A clear picture of the author must be attached with submission(s). Photographs or graphics to highlight submitted content may also be provided. Electronically submitted visuals must be in JPEG format and at least 1200 X 800 pixels. Visuals can also be shared as links from cloud storage services like Google or Dropbox.

·         Articles shouldn’t violate the mission and objectives of NASeA/ANMA, or GCNA.

·         All submissions will be reviewed and may be edited for context, language, space and clarity as well as accuracy and relevance to NASeA/ANMA and GCNA.

·         Any quotes, lines, or excerpts extracted from the internet or any other published news/media must be properly referenced (reference should include the original author’s name, date the original article was published, and the internet link if extracted from the web).

·         Authors bear all responsibilities on the content of their submissions as well as any legal implications arising due to plagiarism, hatred, and character defamation.

·         Articles can be submitted either in Nepali or in English.

·         Please consider advertising in Yeti Viewpoints – business and personal messages are accepted.

 

Please submit your content by August 7, 2017 to the Publication Committee Chair or Members.

 

Your submission will be carefully reviewed by the Publication Committee before making the final decision to publish the submitted contents. In the event of space constraints, content submitted earlier will be given preference.

 

Please inform and encourage your family, friends and children to submit their articles, poems, stories and other literary pieces for publication in Yeti Viewpoints 2017.

2017 Dr. Prahlad & Bindu Pant Scholarship Award of $2,000.00

 Eligibility Criteria:

•  Full-time undergraduate student (freshman or sophomore only)

•  Currently residing anywhere in U.S. (no requirement of U.S. Resident or Citizen)

•  Nepalese origin (one or both parents from Nepal)

•  U.S. high school graduate

•  Scholarship winner must be present at the Joint Convention to receive the award

 Amount: $2,000 to one qualified student

Convention registration fee will be waived and additional support may be available

 Application deadline: 11:59 PM August 12, 2017
