 Media in Nepal – An Insider’s Insight

Durga Nath Sharma is a veteran and tireless journalist with over 40 years of service in mass communication in Nepal. He is the only Journalist in Nepal to have worked in all facets of media; print, radio and TV. He was selected to anchor NTV by His Majesty Late King Birendra and anchored many important coverage and guided Nepalese people through many significant events over many years.

He was a part of the “Four member team” that HM King Birendra hand-picked to start Television in Nepal. He has interviewed numerous world leaders and heads of states.  He has been awarded with numerous awards and accolades including Prabal Gorkha Dakshin Bahu by HM Late King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev. He accompanied Kings and PM’s in numerous bilateral visits, UN assembly sessions, Non-Aligned Summits, SAARC and various international conferences all around the world on Media and Information.

He has authored many books and literary works such as Bina rahadhani ko bidesh yatra,  40 Barsa aam sanchar ma (in press), and Handbook on Broadcasting Journalism edited for Nepal Press Institute. He has also published over 1,000 articles on various newspapers in Nepal and Southeast Asia.

Currently, he is a lecturer at Goldengate International school KTM where he teaches Broadcast Journalism to graduate students. He also serves as an international Correspondent for SBS radio in Australia contributing a news analysis every week in their Nepali service on political, economic and social events in Nepal. He is a regular Columnist for Annapurna Daily. He is a graduate of Tribhuwan University and also received MA in Journalism from All India Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi and a Post Graduate Training from RNTC (Radio Netherlands training center) in Television.
